Georgia Tech Chapter of ASCE hosts Regional and National Leaders

ASCE leadership meets with GT ASCE ChapterThe Georgia Tech Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE) hosted a very special breakfast meeting on Friday, September 13.

Visiting with the student organization for two hours were former National ASCE President Kathy Caldwell, as well as ASCE Region 5 Governor Melissa Wheeler, Georgia Section President Katherine McLeod Gurd, and Georgia Section President-elect, Rebecca Shelton, who will assume office next year.

All of the visiting ASCE dignitaries shared helpful insights with students about their careers as successful engineers. Caldwell is an adjunct professor and a principal with Caldwell Cook and Associates of Gainesville, Florida, while Wheeler, Gurd and Shelton work in Georgia with Southern Company,  AECOM, and the Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources (respectively).

But it wasn't all shop talk.

Three of the visitors -- Wheeler, Gurd and Shelton -- are graduates of Georgia Tech's School of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Wheeler earned her B.S.. in 1996, Gurd earned hers in 1998, and Shelton received her masters from CEE in 2002.
