Dr. Laurie Garrow, Associate Professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering, has been elected Vice President of the Airline Group of the International Federation of Operational Research Societies (AGIFORS). In this role, Dr. Garrow will be responsible for coordinating the Anna Valicek best paper award selection process. The Anna Valicek award is widely recognized as the premier student paper award in the aviation industry.
AGIFORS is a professional society dedicated to the advancement and application of operational research within the airline industry. AGIFORS membership exceeds 1,200 professionals representing more than 200 airlines, airline manufacturers, and aviation related industries and associations. According to Dr. Tim Jacobs, Director of Operations Research at US Airways and former President of AGIFORS, “AGIFORS members have helped develop and implement new technologies used by airlines in the revenue management, scheduling, and operations area. Through providing forums in which members can exchange ideas, AGIFORS helps airlines develop innovative decision support systems. We are excited to have Laurie join the Council, as she will help us continue to innovate through strengthening relationships among airlines and academia.”
