Goodno Named Inaugural Fellow of ASCE's Structural Engineering Institute

Dr. Barry Goodno, professor in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, has been extended an exclusive invitation to join the inaugural class of fellows within the Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) of the American Society of Engineers (ASCE).

The Board of Governors of the SEI established this new honor to recognize a select group of distinguished Dr. Barry GoodnoSEI members who are leaders and mentors in the structural engineering profession. Professor Godno will be publicly recognized during the SEI Annual Business meeting during the Closing Plenary Luncheon of Structures 2012 Congress on March 31, 2012 at the Fairmont Chicago, Millennium Park.

Dr. Goodno's research interests include earthquake engineering, structural dynamics, mechanics of materials, hybrid control of structures, influence of onstructural components on building response, vibrations, and finite element analysis.

Goodno joined the Georgia Tech faculty in 1974. He is a Fellow of ASCE and has held numerous leadership positions within ASCE. He is a Past President of the ASCE Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) Board of Governors. He is past-Chair of the ASCE-SEI Technical Activities Division (TAD) Executive Committee, and past-Chair of the ASCE-SEI Awards Committee. In 2002, Dr. Goodno received the SEI Dennis L. Tewksbury Award for outstanding service to ASCE-SEI. He also held several leadership positions within the NSF-funded Mid-America Earthquake Center (MAE), and directed the MAE Memphis Test Bed Project. He has conducted research, taught graduate courses, and published extensively in the areas of earthquake engineering and structural dynamics throughout his tenure at Georgia Tech.

Goodno earned a Ph.D. in civil engineering and M.S. in structural engineering from Stanford University. He completed his B.S. in civil enginering from the University of Wisconsin. To read Dr. Goodno's full faculty profile, visit:  http://www.ce.gatech.edu/people/faculty/451/overview.
