The Board of Directors of the American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) recently appointed CEE’s Dr. Frank Southworth to its 33-member Research Advisory Committee (RAC) for a two-year term which began this month. The ATRI is a non-profit organization that conducts transportation research with an emphasis on the trucking industry’s essential role in a safe, efficient, and viable transportation system.
A principal research scientist, Southworth spent 28 years working with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory before joining CEE in 2012. As a member of the RAC he will work with other transportation professionals to identify the trucking industry’s top research needs. RAC members represent a diverse group of industry stakeholders including motor carriers, industry suppliers, academics, government, driver groups and law enforcement.
In related news, Southworth was also recently recognized by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) with a 2012 Outstanding Reviewer Award in recognition of his service to the Journal of Transportation Engineering.
