Dr. Paul Mayne elected as vice president of ISSMGE

Civil engineering professor Dr. Paul Mayne has recently been elected vice president for the North America Division of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE). A 28-year member of the organization, Mayne will officially assume his new role in September of 2013, during the 18th ISSMGE meetings, which will be held in Paris. The ISSMGE has more than 19,000 members, worldwide.

For more than a decade, Mayne has served as chairman of ISSMGE Technical Committee on In-situ Testing which focuses on the promotion, utilization and improved interpretation of in-situ tests to enhance geotechnical site characterization. In September of 2012, that group held a conference in Pernambuco, Brazil which produced a two-volume set of proceedings that Mayne edited.
