Nicole Caruso, a senior environmental engineering major, is one of three students recently chosen by the Georgia Chapter of the Alliance of Hazardous Materials Professionals (GA-AHMP) to receive a John J. Scarano Memorial Scholarship. Ms. Caruso's advisors are Dr. Susan Burns and Dr. Spyros Pavlostathis.
The scholarship is awarded annually to college students majoring in environmental, health and safety-related fields of study at Georgia universities. Scarano was instrumental in developing a premier CHMM Certification Exam overview course.
The scholarship competition requires applicants to submit an essay, letters of recommendation and grades for review by a panel of industry professionals.
In addition to the scholarship award, each winner receives a one year membership to the Georgia Chapter of the Alliance of Hazardous Materials Professionals,and free access to all chapter meetings for o ne year.
“This year’s applicants provide a bright outlook on the future of the environmental, health and safety fields within the State,” sai Mark Kromis, the Georgia Chapter president.
