Dr. John Koon inducted into Academy of Distinguished Alumni

Congratulations go out to CEE's Dr. John Koon, professor of the practice, who was recently inducted into the Academy of Distinguished Alumni by his alma mater, the University of California at Berkeley.

A 1971 graduate of Berkekely's doctoral program, Koon holds a professional engineering license (PE) in five states, and is a Board Certified Environmental Engineer. In addition to his experiencewith industry, municipalities, and federal facilities in the U.S., he has worked with industrial clients in Western Europe, Canada, Latin and South America, and the South Pacific.

"John joins a small group of inductees among the many thousands of successful alumni from this program," said Karen and John Huff School Chair Dr. Reginald DesRoches, also a Berkeley graduate.

Another Berkeley alumnus who has received this honor is former Georgia Tech president Dr. Wayne Clough.

Koon has authored or co-authored more than 50 technical publications, many in peer-reviewed journals. He is a fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers, fellow of the Water Environment Federation, Board Certified Environmental Engineer (by the American Academy of Environmental Engineers), and an active member of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), serving on the ABET Executive Committee since 2009. He has also been recognized with awards from several industrial clients including the Shield of Irenee Award from DuPont for Excellence in Engineering Design (1994) and BASF Water Team Award of Merit (1996).
