The School of Civil & Environmental Engineering is pleased to announce the foreCAST Initiative, a three-month project encouraging students to film CEE achievements - past, present or future - that represent a significant impact on society and quality of life.
Between now and April 1, 2014, actively-enrolled School students and groups of students can create and submit short videos related to a range of topics:
- Improvements in water quality and availability
- The creation of infrastructure for renewable energy
- Reducing loses from natural and man-made disasters
- Mitigating the impacts of urbanization on pollution
- Developing the next generation transportation systems, among dozens of other problems.
Submissions will be judged by a panel appointed by Karen and John Huff School Chair Dr. Reginald DesRoches. Prizes include:
- The “Best Video Overall” will be awarded $3000.
- Awards of $2000 will go to the next three top videos.
- All remaining teams who submit a video that meets qualifications outlined will receive a $1,000 stipend and will be featured on our School YouTube channel and related Georgia Tech social media.
- You may also enter your video into NAE’s Engineering For You video competition (additional prizes up to $25,000) if your video meets their requirements (deadline March 31, 2014).
The School has a wide range videography, photography, audio, and lighting equipment available for check-out, as well as information about how to access free video- and photo-editing software and filming tutorial videos on campus. These are all available to Initiative participants!
Interested students can learn more by reviewing the official foreCAST webpage, then emailing Jess Hunt via jesshunt@ce.gatech.edu to create a submission.
