Friberg Wins Air & Waste Management Assoc. Scholarship

Environmental engineering graduate student Mariel Friberg is already attracting the attention of her professional colleagues.

The Air & Waste Management Association has awarded Friberg a scholarship to support her studies next year in recognition of her “exceptional work in air quality research and study,” according to the association.

Friberg’s current research focuses on improving the way we measure exposure to 12 air pollutants in five metropolitan areas and assessing how similar the effects of that exposure is across those areas. Her work is part of the Environmental Protection Agency-funded Southeastern Center for Air Pollution and Epidemiology (SCAPE).

Friberg is currently working on her doctoral degree in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE). She’s also a NASA fellow.
