The American Society of Civil Engineers Foundation has invited Kimberly Kurtis to join its Council of Trustees for 2019.

The council is a non-governing board that helps the foundation direct resources to support its mission of promoting civil engineering, advancing technical practice, and enhancing quality of life. Kurtis will represent a region that includes Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Puerto Rico.

A professor in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Kurtis also serves as associate dean for faculty development and scholarship in the College of Engineering.

The foundation took in $11 million in revenue in 2017, using it to support student competitions, scholarships, educational programs, and leadership programs for professional and student members. The foundation also supports the ASCE Infrastructure Report Card and post-disaster assessment teams that work to understand how infrastructure performed.
