Victor Garas (PhD S.M.ASCE) and Professors Larry Kahn and Kim Kurtis (CEE Structural Engineering, Mechanics and Materials), authors of the manuscript, "Tensile Creep Test of Fiber-Reinforced Ultra-High Performance Concrete," recently received the 2010 Award for Outstanding Article in the "Journal of Testing and Evaluation" from the American Society for Testing and Materials' (ASTM) International 2010 Committee on Publications for their outstanding work.
The award, established by ASTM's Committee on Publications in December 1988, recognizes authors who have made a significant contribution toward a particular field of interest in the Journal's objectives, and enhance the overall quality of manuscripts submitted to the Journal.
The Journal of Testing and Evaluation is published bi-monthly, presenting vew technical information derived from field and laboratory testing on the performance, quantitative characterization, and evaluation of materials. Manuscripts present new test method and data analysis along with critical evaluations; report users' experience with such methods and results of inter-laboratory testing and analysis; and stimulate new ideas and concepts in the fields of testing and evaluation. Topical areas include mechanical testing, fatigue, fracture, rheology, statistics and fire test methodologies with a range of materials including sands, rocks, concretes, metals, polymers, elastomers, and composites.
Garas currently is employed by Exxon Mobil Upstream Research Company in Houston, Texas.
