Hermann Fritz, associate professor in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, is one of the world's leading experts in fluid dynamics related to natural hazards such as tsunamis, hurricane storm surges and landslides. Dr. Fritz's research also inlcudes mitigation of such natural hazards and protection of coastal areas.
On Tuesday April 11, Professor Fritz spoke with The Amplifier, Georgia Tech's multi-contributor blog that pairs current issues with commentary from Georgia Tech experts, about the massive earthquake that hit off the coast of the Indonesian island of Sumatra earlier that day. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami watch for the entire Indian Ocean. But a few hours later, when no major waves occurred, the watch was lifted.
