James Case, an accomplished civil engineer and longtime friend of the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, has been tapped to receive the 2013 Engineer of the Year Award from the Georgia Engineering Alliance.
Over the years, Case has been a favorite guest lecturer in CEE’s civil engineering program, where he has generously shared a wealth of practical and technical expertise with our students. From 2002 until 2011, Case served on CEE’s External Advisory Board (EAB), one of only two non-alumni elevated to that entity.
“Jim brings an enormous amount of architectural and engineering savvy to his work, and he is known throughout the Southeast as one of the very best,” said Karen and John Huff School Chair Dr. Reginald DesRoches. “His willingness to mentor the next generation of structural engineers at Georgia Tech speaks volumes about his commitment to the profession. I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this honor.”
A native of Poughkeepsie, NY, Case is a founding principal at Atlanta’s Uzan & Case Engineers, LLC where he has helped create some of the region’s most iconic structures, including the High Museum’s Woodruff Center Expansion, the Intercontinental Hotel, the CDC’s Building 20 project and the GE Capital Office Building. He is also a past president of the Structural Engineers Association of Georgia.
