Rising Grad Student Pierre Receives Hearst Fellowship

School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) student Danielle Rodriguez Pierre has been selected to receive the William Randolph Hearst Fellowship at Georgia Tech to support her graduate studies next year.

As an undergraduate student in the School, Pierre has been engaged in substantial research on environmental fluid mechanics with Associate Professor Kevin Haas. She developed a new technique to adjust for camera motion on a Cape Hatteras lighthouse so recorded observations of large wave events were considerably more preceise. She also helped assess the potential to harness rivers in Puerto Rico for energy generation. She begins her graduate work this fall as part of CEE’s joint bachelor’s/master’s program.

Pierre will concentrate on structural engineering in her master’s program. She expects to complete her studies in Spring 2016.

The Hearst Fellowship program at Tech supports women and under-represented minority students who are pursing graduate degrees in engineering. Recipients are selected for their exemplary levels of scholarship and innovation.
